Quizno's -- Coupons

Join the Quizno's e-mail list for periodic coupons. Stretching a Buck says they send out birthday coupons, but none of the people that I know (myself included) who are already on the list and already had a birthday received one, so I don't know about that. But I have received other coupons, including the most recent buy one toasty torpedo, get 1/2 off a second and a $1 off a sub coupons that came out today.

The Kohl's email list just sent out a coupon that anyone (not just cardholders) are eligible to use this Saturday. It is 15% off your entire purchase (including sale/clearance items), or 20% off your entire purchase of $100 or more.

Pair this with the Super Saturday sale between 7 am and 1 pm, and you can get some excellent deals ~ don't forget to check the clearance racks!

Great Grocery Deals and Related Notes

Anyone else who had a terrific week last week with the coupons/sales may also be relieved to know that this week is a bit calmer, particularly since there were no new coupons that came out this past Sunday for the holiday :) Personally, I'm running out of storage space... gotta eat some of this first! But we still have a few exciting notes...
  • Chi Chi's Salsa - 5 for $5 at Meijer - Use your 55 cent off coupon from the 5/17 newspaper. My Meijer doubled it and made it free!
  • Velveeta Shells & Cheese - $1.84 at Target - Use your $1 off coupon from Kraft to get a box for just 84 cents.
  • Cherries are $2.68/lb at Kroger this week! It is the cheapest price I've seen so far this season. Strawberry prices seem to be going up a bit, but I've started to see some 2 for $5 on other berries.
  • Kroger brand cheese Singles are $1. If you are a Singles person, I would say these are pretty darn good personally (I repeat, these are definitely singles processed cheese, not "real" cheese, so keep that in mind). They have a good 5 or 6 different kinds from which to choose, including my favorites, Swiss and Pepperjack.
  • Fiber 1 Bars - 4 for $10 at Giant Eagle - Members of General Mills Pssst! that got the Fiber 1 coupon for $1.35 off a box of Mocha Chocolate may want to take that with them to make it $1.15 for the box.
  • Marie Callendar Frozen Dinners are $1.88 at Kroger - Use your $1 off coupon from 5/17 newspaper and get one for 88 cents.
Other notes....
  • Oscar Meyer Center Cut Smokehouse Bacon - 2 for $6 at Meijer - in case anyone else likes this stuff (my fav!), a heads-up that it is on sale at Meijer. I couldn't find a coupon, but given that it is regularly 1 for $5.99, I like to get it when it is essentially B1G1F.
  • Kraft First Taste members, I found the latest sample of DiGiorno Flatbread Melts in stock at Meijer. They had four different kinds from which to choose; I picked up the Chicken Parmesan.

Bath and Body Works offers an email list that sends out coupons periodically. It is also handy if you shop there, as it provides a good heads-up on their major sales, like the Semi-Annuals, or if there is a particularly good deal going on. Great Grocery Deals

There are some great websites you can use to get a breakdown of the available grocery deals each week, along with some ideas for coupon use, in order to maximize your savings by taking advantage of sales and coupons in conjunction with one another. I use Stretching a Buck, which goes through the ads for Giant Eagle, Kroger, Meijer, Target, and a number of other stores, as well as links to other deal/coupon ideas. Be sure to check the comments -- other readers also add suggestions that come in handy! Since everyone has different shopping habits/product preferences, that can be especially useful. Remember, it's not a good deal if you wouldn't have bought it anyway!

So I will not be using these types of posts to reinvent the wheel, but, instead, to highlight some of the greatest grocery deals that I have found (see link above) or developed after going through the ads and coupons myself (I still like to go through ads myself).

Things to remember: Different stores have different "weeks." For example, Meijer is Sun-Sat, Kroger is Mon-Sun, and Giant Eagle is Thurs-Weds. Sales vary from store-to-store, even within the same city, so carry all your coupons with you in case you get an unexpected deal (i.e. my 99 cent Kashi frozen entrees from Target last week!) <-- Target is a big one that constantly has different deals at different stores. That said, let's $ave! (p.s. On Double Coupons ~ I am erring on the side of caution with my price estimates and assuming they won't get doubled. So if they do, you are in even better shape!! Reportedly, Meijer, Giant Eagle, and Kroger all double coupons regularly, but this varies based on location and store.)

Kraft Singles
- 1/2 price at Meijer - reportedly, this should be about $1.50 per package.
Buy 2 sale packages and use your $1 off 2 packages Kraft coupon and a $1 off 2 packages Meijer Mealbox coupon to get each package for 50 cents.

Philadelphia Cream Cheese - 4 for $5 at Meijer or Giant Eagle ($1.25 each)
Buy 2 sale packages and use your $1 off 2 packages Kraft coupon to get each for 75 cents.

Jell-O Gelatin - 6 for $3 at Meijer (50 cents each)
Buy 6 sale packages and use (2) $1 off 3 packages Kraft coupons and the 50 cents off 5 packages Meijer Mealbox coupon to get all six for 50 cents.

Breyer's 1.5 qt Ice Cream - 4 for $10 ($2.50 each) at Meijer
Use your $1 off coupon from the 5/17 Sunday newspaper to get it for $1.50.

Triscuits and Wheat Thins - 3 for $5 at Meijer ($1.67 each)
Use $1 off Kraft coupon for Triscuits to get it for 67 cents
and/or Use $1 off Kraft coupon for Wheat Thins to get it for 67 cents
An additional question that I do not currently know the answer to (if you do, let me know!) is whether this deal includes the Triscuit Thin Crisps. If it does, and you were also one of the people who received the Kraft apology coupons last week, use your $2 off Triscuit Thin Crisp to get it for free! So for now, I would recommend carrying the coupon with you to Meijer, just in case! Debbie reports that the Thin Crisps DID work at her Meijer, so Use the $2 off Triscuit Thin Crisp coupon, if you got it from Kraft last week, to get it FREE. They did not do overage, but free is still most excellent!

Cool Whip - 99 cents each at Meijer or $1 each at Kroger or Giant Eagle
Use $1 off 2 Kraft coupon to get each for 50 cents.

Ragu Pasta Sauce - 4 for $5 at Meijer ($1.25 each)
Buy two and use the 60 cents off two Ragu coupon from the 5/17 Sunday newspaper and the $1 off two Meijer Mealbox coupon to get these jars for 45 cents each.

Heluva Good Dip - 2 for $3 at Giant Eagle ($1.50 each)
Use the 75 cent coupon from the 5/17 Sunday newspaper and the dip will be 75 cents.

Smucker's Ice Cream Toppings - 2 for $4 at Giant Eagle ($2 each)
Use the $1 coupon from the 5/17 Sunday newspaper for a yummy topping at just $1.

Hefty Plates - 2 for $3 at Giant Eagle ($1.50 each)
Use the 50 cent coupons from the 5/17 Sunday newspaper to get 20-80 (it's selected varieties) plates for $1.

Kraft Salad Dressing - 3 for $5 at Giant Eagle ($1.67 each)
Use the 55 cent coupon off one 16 oz ranch dressing from Kraft to get it for $1.12 or the Kraft $1 off any salad dressing to get it for 67 cents.

Skinny Cow Truffle Bars - 3 for $10 at Giant Eagle ($3.34 each)
Use the $1 off coupon to get one for $2.34. (Coupon info thanks to Stretching A Buck).

Meijer also has its beans on sale for 5 cans for $3 again (60 cents a can). That is the cheapest I have found canned beans (I regularly buy black beans, kidney beans, and garbanzo beans) in my area, so I like to stock up at this sale.

Kashi's Taste Tester Panel

The most recent market research/taste testing opportunity that I have discovered, just in the past few weeks! Kashi occasionally offers free product coupons to all - you may recall seeing commercials for the TLC cookies or, more recently, the free entrees. They also offer the Taste Tester Panel, which you can sign up for here: http://www.kashi.com/account/new

My first product, which I need to go pick up at my next grocery visit, is the new GoLean waffles. I'll share my review when I've sampled them!

In the meantime, here are my reviews on the advertised free products that I've received from Kashi (and I will post those opportunities to get a coupon, as well, as they arise).

  • Frozen Entree - Kashi gave away some free coupons to sample their frozen dinners. I tried the Mayan Harvest Bake, which is described on their website as: "Mayan Harvest Bake: Plantains with roasted sweet potato, black beans and kale. Spicy ancho sauce with pumpkin seed garnish served over Kashi seven whole grain polenta, plus amaranth."

This is SO DELICIOUS. I wasn't sure what to think of it based solely on staring at packaging, but it had pretty good nutritional stats, and was one of the lowest in sodium, so I decided to give it a go. It was the best frozen dinner I have ever tried. It didn't taste frozen AT ALL. It was so good that I went directly to the freezer case at my next grocery trip to see if they were on sale. Alas, they were not... but they are this week!
  • TLC Cookies-- Kashi is currently conducting a snack drive, encouraging people to turn in their bad-for-you snacks in exchange for a healthier one from Kashi. Described on their website as: "Our Oatmeal Dark Chocolate cookies feature rolled whole oats with rugged chunks of dark chocolate."

Sample: I tried the TLC Oatmeal Dark Chocolate Cookie.

Review: It was pretty good. It was a little on the dry side, but with some milk or water, it was fine. The grains weren't overpowering, and the dark chocolate was a nice addition. Recommended.

General Mills' Pssst!

Another market research/taste testing opportunity. Visit http://pssst.generalmills.com/join2.php to join. General Mills products include Betty Crocker, Pilsbury, Bisquick, Muir Glen, Progresso, Yoplait, etc. I've been on this list for awhile and have only received one opportunity so far, and a few coupons. I'm not sure that everyone is getting the same opportunities, as I've heard other people have received a lot more of them, but still, free food and coupons of any kind are always appreciated.

The first product was excellent - delivered to my door last November and full of coupons to share with others. I only just now received a second product coupon which is only for $1.35 off of a new Fiber One bar.

I also like that they gave me this lovely picture to share with y'all of the product too... here's the info on the first product:

Sampled: Romano's Macaroni Grill Restaurant Favorites - 4 different kinds. I tried Creamy Basil Parmesan Chicken & Pasta.

Photobucket

Product is described on the website as: A classic restaurant favorite to make at home in just 20 minutes.

Review: Excellent! It's a little high in the sodium and carb departments, but for a quick meal, this is great. (It's probably actually healthier than what you get in the restaurant anyway, especially since I used skim milk in ours). The kit comes with pre-measured amounts of everything - just add milk and chicken (or whatever meat or fake meat you prefer). It also suggested butter for cooking the chicken, but I just used some nonstick cooking spray and thought it worked nicely. This took under 30 minutes to get on the table. I capped it off by steaming some asparagus and laying it on top of the pasta, before sprinkling with some parsley to really get the "restaurant" look going. All three of the individuals who ate it with me also gave it a big thumbs up -- after cleaning their plates, of course! It serves 5, so I was able to save a helping to reheat for lunch the next day - it met that expectation, as well, reheating beautifully. Highly recommended.

Kashi -- Coupons

Visit Kashi's Little Steps section of their website to print off coupons good for their cereals and snack bars.

For those of you who also picked up the coupon sheets that were available a few weeks ago by the Kashi freezer products at both Kroger and Giant Eagle, now is a great time to redeem what you have left!
  • Kroger is offering Kashi Frozen Pizzas for $3.99 -cut out your $3 off coupon and get them for 99 cents each!
  • Giant Eagle has Kashi Entrees and Pocket Bread Sandwiches for 2 for $7 - get out your $2 off entree coupons and $1.50 off pocket bread sandwiches to get the entrees for $1.50 a piece and the pocket bread for $2 each.
  • ETA!! 5/16/09 - I just got back from Super Target, and they have a limited variety of Kashi frozen entrees for $2.99 each - making them .99 cents each with the $2 off coupon. Sadly, this one did not carry the Mayan Harvest Bake, but there were eight others in stock from which to choose.
May I highly recommend the Mayan Harvest Bake when you are considering the Entrees? I will post my review shortly, but suffice to say that it is amazing!

Email List Coupons -- Restaurants, Borders

I'm going to post some info on the restaurant coupons that I've received via email lists in case it helps you decide which ones you'd like to join too.

Thanks to a co-worker, I found out that Buca di Beppo has an email list through which they release coupons. Sign up to get a free small appetizer coupon immediately.

Qdoba sent out a $5 offer for their seasonal Mango Salad meal via email.

Another co-worker and I enjoyed some Johnny Rockets for lunch last week, inspiring me to sign up for their email list. I just received a free hamburger with purchase of another entree and a soda pop coupon. I received a welcome coupon upon signing up for a free hamburger with purchase of another entree, starter, and drink.

Arby's announced on their list that they will be offering Wednesday freebies throughout the whole summer, for which coupons will be required. I expect they'll be coming via email too.

Border's
sent out a 25% off the list price of one item coupon for Border's Rewards cardholders (Border's Rewards is FREE - it's like a shopping card, not a credit card).

Birthday Bonanza List 2009 - Free Treats & Coupons

Some of you are familiar with my annual Birthday list, in which I compile the exciting birthday gifts that come out from restaurants and the like. If you are interested in these opportunities, you'll want to visit each of the websites and sign up for their clubs/mailing lists. You might want to use an email address that you don't mind them sending periodic emails to throughout the year (sometimes they are just advertisements, but some places also offer additional coupons!)

1) RED ROBIN - Free burger (beef, fish, veggie, chicken, etc. all included) and unlimited fries, plus you will get a birthday ice cream sundae and balloons!

2) SPAGHETTI WAREHOUSE - free Original Spaghetti Entree and Spumoni Birthday Sundae.

3) RUBY TUESDAY - Free burger (beef, chicken, turkey, veggie, and even a buffalo burger are selections) and fries!

4) FIRST WATCH - Free entree

5) COLDSTONE CREAMERY - Free Like It size ice cream with one ice cream of your choice and one mix-in.

6) CITY BBQ - Free dessert

7) QDOBA - Buy 1, Get 1 Free Entree

8) BW-3's - Free dessert with purchase

9) BOSTON PIZZA - Free dessert with purchase

10) ARBY'S - Free Swirl Shake with purchase of a Roastburger

11) GRAETER'S - Free pint with $15 purchase.

12) CAMILLE'S SIDEWALK CAFE - Free dessert with purchase of wrap or sandwich

13) ABUELO'S - $5 off any lunch or dinner entree

14) RED LOBSTER - $5 off two adult entrees - offers other coupons throughout the year too

15) MELTING POT - Free chocolate fondue for 2 with purchase of any combo dinner for 2 or 4 course feature

TGI Friday's does great coupons throughout the year, but no birthday coupon.

Kohl's - Clothes, Jewelry, Bedding, Cookware, Shoes, Housewares, Seasonal

Sign up for Kohl's e-mailing list to receive notification of their weekly sales and offers. They also send out coupons occasionally. The trick is to watch out for the coupons that are only for those who hold Kohl's credit cards and those available for use by everyone. If you have a Kohl's credit card, of course, you can use any of them, and they come out more freqently. For those who do not, lately they have been sending out 15% off your entire purchase coupons (including sale and clearance priced items) that can be used by anyone. The deal is best maximized by combining this with a sale. Most recently the coupon came out simultaneously with a Power Hours event, which meant that, if you went during particular hours, you got an additional percentage off already reduced merchandise. (Night Owl Fridays, 3 - 11 pm and Early Bird Saturdays, 7 am to 1 pm). Consequently, you can get sale and clearance merchandise that is further reduced for Power Hours savings, plus the 15% off your total purchase coupon. Some clearance was reduced to 90% off, so if you can find something you need on one of those racks, you could be paying just $1 or $2 for it!

Attention Bookworms -- Borders and Barnes & Noble

Here's the e-mailing list info related to books....
  • Border's - Frequently sends out coupons, up to 40% off the list price of one item! Most often, the coupons are for 20-30%, but I have seen two 40% off in the past two months, so perhaps we will be seeing more of those coming out soon. They also send you a coupon for your birthday - this year it was 25% off. You can also tell them the genres you are interested in, and they will gear their advertising accordingly to the latest books that came out in that area. You need to join at one of the stores (which include Waldenbooks) by registering for the Borders Rewards program (Borders program is free, but you need the little card in order to redeem your coupon).
  • Barnes & Noble - Their coupons tend to be more geared towards specific books that have been released, so if you like to read the latest books, you'll find those useful. As far as the select-your-own-item coupons go, they are usually 10-20% off the list price.

Stretching a Buck - Great Resource

Stretching A Buck

Thanks to Renee, who sent me the link to this site. Great resource for a weekly summary of deals at Kroger, Meijer, Target, Giant Eagle, CVS, Walgreens, etc, as well as coupon offers and freebies. It also provides great suggestions on stacking your coupons and catalinas (the little coupons that print out at the register) with sales to maximize your savings. I check it daily!

Crafty Coupons - Hobby Lobby, JoAnn's, Michael's & DMC

For all you crafters out there (and that includes me - so you are in good company, as I will also be posting the craft offers I encounter), here's the info I have on the e-mail lists.

  • Hobby Lobby - Hobby Lobby sends out a weekly coupon with their ad! Frequently, it is a 40% off one item coupon, but it occasionally is geared towards specific items like Sharpies, Wilton products, etc. But just wait until the following week, and the 40% off is usually back again! Plus, of course, you get to see what other sale opportunities are available each week. (Look for the email sign up at the top right-hand side of the site)
  • JoAnn's - JoAnn's sends out periodic coupons, including 40% off, or even 50% off, one item, as well as small percentages off your entire purchase (10, 15%). (There's a box for email sign up on the right side of the site about halfway down, or go all the way to the bottom in the left hand side of the site).
  • Michael's does not include their coupons in their emails. If you sign up for the email list, it will only be for the weekly ad. You'll need to pick up the Sunday paper for the coupon, which is often 40% off one item.
  • DMC - Specifically for those who enjoy cross-stitch, embroidery, and similar such pursuits - sign up for the DMC list for free patterns that you can save to your computer and print! They have a limited amount available to all on the site, but those on the email list get special list-only ones. (Click on DMC Club). You can also join their mentor list for a free kit to use to mentor others in stitching.

Valpak - Coupons

Yes, it's true you usually get your Valpak coupons in the blue envelope that comes to your mailbox. But if you take a minute to sign up for their email list, you get access to special email-only coupons, including some for products to buy at the grocery store!

Quaker True Delights - Coupon

Quaker has a new line of granola bars that they are introducing at http://www.quakertruedelights.com/. Visit the site to pick up a $1 off coupon.

Thanks to Jo for sharing this opportunity!

Please feel free to share!

I love great deals, but I know that I don't know about them ALL (just enough that people ask me frequently enough that That's What She $aved was born!). So please do share your own exciting discoveries! Email me and I'll post them (with a thank-you to you!), or feel free to add them as a comment to a relevant post :)

Kraft First Taste

If you enjoy participating in market research, check out the Kraft First Taste Community. Periodically, they send you coupons to try out new products and a few more to share with friends. After you try them, you complete a short survey to give your opinions on the products.

A few of the products I have tried through this program include:

  • DiGiorno for One Microwaveable Pizza - Personal-pan sized versions of DiGiorno pizzas.

Product is described on the website as: "Try NEW DiGiorno For One pizza – a taste so tantalizing you'll want it all for yourself. Crust that's crispy on the outside, soft & tender on the inside and loaded with big, juicy toppings. And, it's ready in less than 5 minutes."

Sample: I tried DiGiorno for One Thin Crust Grilled Chicken & Vegetable.

Review: Tasty and easy to take to work and heat up there. The crust crisped up nicely and there was a good amount of toppings. Just watch the cooking time and check the center of the pizza to make sure it gets cooked through. I would recommend checking them out.

  • Easy Mac in a Microwaveable Cup - Easy Mac is now out in a variety of flavors in their own microwaveable cups.

Product is described on the website as: "Kraft Easy Mac Cups and new Easy Italia Cups are perfectly cooked pastas and delicious sauces that meet your snacking needs. New Easy Italia Cups flavors include Herb Marinara, Roasted Garlic Parmesan and Alfredo, plus a new Easy Mac Cup flavor—Cheesy Taco. Perfect for any “need to eat now” occasion, Kraft Easy Mac and Easy Italia Cups are sure to heat up your snacking experience!"

Sample: I tried Easy Mac Original and Easy Italia Roasted Galric Parmesan.

Review: The Easy Italia cup was edible, but not particularly memorable. The Easy Mac, on the other hand, was great and led me to trying out and enjoying the Easy Mac Triple Cheese. Kraft is marketing it towards kids and teens, but I found them really handy to take to work - just add water and heat up, and you've got an easy meal paired with some fruits and veggies. I would just stick to the traditional Easy Mac ones for some yummy macaroni 'n cheese goodness that is fast and easy.

  • Post Trail Mix Crunch Bars - Described on their website as: "Introducing Post Grape-Nuts Trail Mix Crunch Cereal – Now you can get the wholesome goodness of Grape-Nuts in a new cereal with an exciting mix of tastes and textures! It comes in a new Grape-Nuts nugget with a lighter crunch, combined with naturally sweet raisins, crunchy oat clusters, toasted almonds and fiber sticks and a touch of honey. The result is a delicious new cereal that the entire family will surely enjoy. Each serving of Grape-Nuts Trail Mix Crunch provides an excellent source of whole grain, with 26g per serving, and a good source of fiber."

I sampled: Raisin & Almond Cereal, To Go Bar

The cereal is pretty good. I was never a fan of plain grape nuts, so this really dresses it up. The nutritionals on it are pretty good too. I found the to go bar to be a little on the sweet side, but still a nice bar with lots of cereal, dried fruit, and nuts in it. I'm not sure why I can't find the bar on their website.

  • Kraft Bistro Deluxe Pasta:
Described on their website as: "For a sophisticated twist on an old favorite, try Kraft Bistro Deluxe Pasta. Now you can enjoy premium Kraft cheeses and pastas in a variety of mouth-watering flavors fit for your distinctive tastes: Sundried Tomato Parmesan, Creamy Portobello Mushroom, Classic Cheddar and Three Cheese Italiano. This Mac & Cheese is meant for you."

I sampled: Sundried Tomato Parmesan and Three Cheese Italiano.

They were delicious! I love macaroni and cheese, definitely an old favorite of mine, and these were excellent flavor selections. The cheese sauce comes in packets as a sauce, no dry powder to mix with other ingredients. The Sundried Tomato Parmesan came with a real packet of sundried tomatoes to add partway through the cooking time. They are slightly higher in fat, calories, and salt than I would have liked, so I like to half the serving size and use it as a side with a healthy entree and veggies. Definitely recommended if you enjoy macaroni and cheese.
I still need to type up my reviews on the latest two - Jello Pudding Singles and Oscar Mayer Deli Creations. I'll add them when they're ready.

Kraft coupons!

Kraft released a lot of great coupons today. Combine them with sales at the store, and you're looking at some great savings. See here for more information!

FYI - Kraft products include items like Crystal Light, Velveeta, Cool Whip, Ritz/Wheat Thins, Oscar Mayer, and Philadelphia Cheeses.

ETA: This site also has a post providing suggestions on how to maximize your savings with the Kraft coupons by using them on on-sale items.

Free BBQ Pulled Pork Slider @ White Castle!

Visit White Castle to print off a coupon for a free BBQ Pulled Pork Slider!

I saw the commercial for it the other day and wanted to try it, so here's a perfect excuse! Of course, I'll have to pick up one of those l'il chicken sandwiches I love so much while I'm there :)

Setting up!

Recently, I have found that when I talk about various deals, bargains, coupons, etc, that I frequently receive the response, "How did you find out about that?!" Consequently, I decided to compile all of my info in one place, making it easier to share!
